Captain Dick's comments on 1/2 day versus full day
charters.
If you
have never been charter fishing before or are mainly interested in
experiencing the Duluth harbor and Lake Superior from the water, then a 1/2 day trip is
recommended. If you
enjoyed your previous charter fishing trip or if you are serious fishermen you should
consider an all day charter. On a charter a fair amount of time is spent
running out to the hot spot (sometimes 10 to 15 miles) then setting up
lines, and later taking in lines and running back in. On a full day trip the
extra 3 1/2 hours is all fishing time.
Captain
Adam's comments on choice of charter service.
All of the operators of other charter services
that
I know are friendly and competent captains that
offer an excellent service, but I have noticed a few captains are
making statements I find misleading. Constantly using phrases such as "with
us" or "on our boat" what they are really trying to say is but not on
other charter boats, this is a form of negative advertising. They
are making claims such as
only they drive out into the
lake far enough or that only they catch big fish, or that only they allow you to handle your own rod and hook set, and that charter boats (other than
theirs of course) assign seating. This type
of talk is really just a bunch of
B.S.! All the charter captains I know drive directly to where they think the
fish are, whether its 10 blocks or 10 miles. All the captains want you to catch
a big
fish! All the captains I know want you to handle the rod by
yourself, however some captains hand you the rod after they set the hook, and some (us)
allow you to do it. Of course different captains will have various styles
and techniques. But different does not mean wrong! You need to ask the captain how they do it. It
is unfortunate to see
a charter service trying to gain your business by using negative advertising. But the
reason you see politicians use negative campaign ads is that they work.
Whether you choose us or another charter service we want your charter
fishing experience to be a positive one. Choose a
charter service
that has a positive attitude and does not imply negative things
about other charter services.
